How we started Signs and Mirrors

Jamie and I met in Hawaii summer of 2022. Our first date was surfing during sunset in Waikiki. Despite having only surfed once before, I played it off cool but was thankful the waves were light that day. 

Despite the lack of surf, we talked on our surfboards for 2 hours instead. We didn't know it at the time, but this would be the beginning of many conversations, moving in together, starting a business, and getting married over the next 2 years. 

We moved in together into an apartment in midtown New York exactly 5 months after we met. We also started our first business, a self-portrait studio in New York City, just one month after moving in together. Our friends thought we were crazy! 

Thankfully, customers really loved our self-portrait photo studio. The only issue was that we were on the 9th floor, no one knew we existed! We started to search for an A-frame that we could place on the ground floor so passersby could know we were upstairs. 

We wanted something different from the numerous metal and plastic A-frames sandwich signs that flooded the streets. Our sign needed to look clean and remind customers of their beauty. Our first slogan was "Smile, you're beautiful". It was clear we needed a mirrored sign!

Surprisingly, mirrored A-frame signs are hard to make and we couldn't find them online anywhere. There were many signs and many mirrors, but no mirrored signs for indoor / outdoor use. 

Thankfully, having operated a retail business, I learned to become handy and build things with my hands. To make our custom mirrored sign, I sourced and bought a metal A-frame from Amazon, found a local mirror supplier in Chinatown, and bought a vinyl cutter.

Many YouTube videos and hand scrapes later, our first sign was born! Today, we craft stunning custom mirrored signs for businesses, allowing them to highlight the best part of their day - their customers!
